Minsk wins Hackett’s Bookmakers Irish Cesarewitch
JOHN OXX took his tally of Irish Cesarewitch victory to eight as Minsk ran out a comfortable winner of the stayers’ race.
The well-backed 4-1 favourite arrived full of running in the Curragh straight and stretched easily clear of Cry For The Moon, Bremen and Admiral Barry to take the spoils and give Oxx another success in a race he has dominated.
Oxx was already the most successful trainer in the Irish Cesarewitch’s 166-year history.
The three-year-old has had his last run for John Oxx, however, and will depart for Dessie Hughes’s to be trained for hurdling on Monday.
William Hill inserted Minsk at 16-1 for the Triumph Hurdle after the race.
Oxx said: “I thought the handicapper might have got him after his last win, but it just shows that when they’re improving you can never be sure what they’re capable of.”
He added: “He’ll make a good hurdler.”
He was one of three winner for Curragh based trainer John Oxx
