Woodlands Park 100 Club Leinster National at Naas Racecourse, Sunday the 10th of March
Rare Bob and Oscar Time set to clash as they use this weekend’s feature race, the Woodlands Park 100 Club Leinster National, as the prep race for the Aintree Grand National. All Rare Bob’s wins have come on soft-heavy ground, which will suit him this weekend with the current going at Naas soft, soft – heavy in places. He has finished fourth in an Irish National as well as running fine races in the John Smiths Handicap at Aintree in 2010, and again last year. Oscar Time has been very lightly raced over the last couple of seasons, with a disappointing result at Fairyhouse two weeks ago. Although this is a good test for both horses, the 2012 winner Paddy Pub will be hoping to claim the Leinster National once again.
Sam Waley-Cohen will be aboard Oscar time, as he warms up for a busy week ahead at Cheltenham. The highlight of his week will of course be The Cheltenham Gold Cup, as he sets to repeat his 2011 victory with Long Run.
The Naas Directors Plate Novice Steeplechase has produced some fine winners in recent times, with Flemenstar claiming victory in 2012. This year Dedigout, trained by A.J. Martin, hopes to get back to winning ways. Twinlight, trained by Willie Mullins, looks to be his biggest rival winning 3 out of his last 4 runs.
The Kingsfurze Novice Hurdle looks to be another interesting race, with Shrapnel, Clonbanan Lad, Moscow Mannon, Zuzka and Twigline all set to run. Moscow Mannon could be the one to watch coming fourth in the feature race, the paddypower.com Novice Hurdle, at the Cheltenham trial day.
