The Curragh prepare for 28th Newbridge Parishes & Community Family Race Day
Newbridge Community Family Race Day at the Curragh will take place on Bank Holiday Monday 6th May. Proceeds from the day will be donated to worthy charities in the locality by both the Catholic and Church of Ireland parishes.
Sponsors include Coolmore Stud, The Irish Field, Keadeen Hotel, Newbridge Credit Union and PG Duffy & Sons Citroen.
A top class program of eight races starting at 2.15pm will feature our leading jockeys while last year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby winner Camelot is expected to run in the features High Chaparral Mooresbridge Stakes. The Irish Field Flat Race also takes place and this race over two miles is the only National Hunt contest to take place at the Curragh this year
In addition to eight exciting races on the track, an impressive variety of free entertainment for children is planned to take place throughout the day with a major family theme include Front Runner Racing Club and the chance to ride the Horse Racing simulator. Entertainment will also feature a variety of bouncy castles and face painters. The Curragh in conjunction with the Riverbank Arts Centre will stage a free workshop for children also at the races.
A magnificent display of military equipment courtesy of the Defence Forces (Curragh Camp) will be a major highlight of the day
There will be a fantastic line up of live music which has been put together by well known local musician Pud Barrett to take place throughout the afternoon including Night Train, Newbridge Gospel Choir, the Leahy Family, Cathu, and St Conleths Variety Community Games, Stage Academy Newbridge and many more
.
Children from local sports clubs have been invited to take part in exhibition games on the racecourse between races.
Admission is €10, Seniors and Under 25s €5 and kids go free while a family package costs only €15 with €5 from each package sold going towards this exciting fund raising initiative
Tickets for the fund raising raffle with a great line up of prizes will be available from the Parish Centre and will be available to purchase both prior to the race day and at the races. Prizes include 500 litres of Home Heating Oil from McLoughlins, 500 euro travel voucher from Newbridge Travel and prizes from Newbridge Silverware, Spar, Dunnes Stores, Lily O’Briens, Shades N Shapes, Gables Leisure Centre and Woodies DIY.
A Go Racing Kids Club for primary schools in the Parish will take place at the racecourse prior to the race day, in association with the Racing Academy and Centre of Education and Horse Racing Ireland. All students will spend approximately two hours at the racecourse to learn about various aspects of the horse racing industry. All participants will be asked to write as essay following their visit with the best essays receiving superb prizes from Newbridge Credit Union
Father Joe McDermott, Parish Priest of Newbridge and Chairman of the Parishes and Community Festival Race Day Committee commented, ““The variety of fund raising initiatives at the race day this year will hopefully ensure we have a highly successful day on the 6th May and significantly add to the total of monies raised since the race day was initially run 28 years ago”.
