THE Moyglare Stud Stakes features on a fantastic eight race programme at the Curragh this Sunday 9th September and the Group One contest has attracted 21 top notch fillies at today’s five day entry stage. The owners of the Andy Oliver trained Sendmylovetorose, My Special J’s trained by Pat Shanahan and Sky Lantern trained in Britain by Richard Hannon have paid €22,500 to supplement their fillies into the race.
“She is in super form and it’s all systems go for Sunday,” revealed trainer Andy Oliver of Sendmylovetorose. “She is a light moving filly, and although she has won on soft ground, we think she will appreciate the likely better ground at the weekend. She has really thrived since her victory in the Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket back in July.”
Pat Shanahan is also looking forward to Sunday with My Special J’s as he bids to bag his first Group One success having won the race as a jockey on Chelsea Rose in 2004. “The filly is in great form and we are confident of a big showing from here,” remarked Shanahan. “My Special J’s is a good mover and will appreciate faster ground. She has improved both mentally and physically since winning the Keeneland Debutante Stakes at the Curragh last month and I would not swap her for any other horse in the race.”
Sky Lantern is unbeaten in two runs so far and looks a decent filly in the making. She is one of four British trained fillies remaining in the race, the others being Jillnextdoor, Just The Judge and Orpha. Harasiya and Diamond Sky, second and third respectively behind My Special J’s in the above mentioned Curragh race, also stand their ground, while champion trainer Aidan O’Brien can choose between Greek Goddess, Il Palazzo, Magical Dream and Snow Queen.
Local trainer Dermot Weld has a strong hand in the Group Two Irresistible Jewel Blandford Stakes with Sapphire and Caponata to choose from. The race has attracted 14 entries, including three from Britain in Nahrain, Sea Of Heartbreak and Set To Music. Devotion, Soon, Twirl and Up are the four Aidan O’Brien-trained candidates for the 10 furlong contest.
The Group Three Go And Go Round Tower Stakes has attracted an entry of 24 and there are some promising juveniles among them, including Awakened Spirit, Boston Rocker, George Vancouver, Lightnin Hopkins and Parliament Square. Famous Name is the star name among the 23 entries for the Group Three Refuse To Bend Solonaway Stakes. The one mile contest has also attracted Starspangledbanner, Takar, Fulbright, Caponata and Lady Wingshot.
